A celebrity aesthetician to Hollywood's elite (including Jennifer Aniston), ZIIP founder Melanie Simon’s skincare expertise spoke for itself when she entered ZIIP’s UK headquarters recently.
We sat down with Melanie to catch-up about all things ZIIP Beauty and the go-to skincare products that she credits for her healthy-looking, luminous skin.
Introducing herself for those unfamiliar with her infamy in the skincare game, Simon puts it quite simply, “I like to call myself an electrical esthetician because there isn’t really another way to describe myself. I work with electrical combinations designed to support the skin.”
Now we know this may sound a little daunting, but rest assured that Simon has earned her laurels in this game and knows what she’s talking about.
“I’ve been doing this for over 20 years now, using machines from all over the world. What fascinated me the most was the electricity and the electrical currents that we used, which work in a way that feels familiar to the body.”
After huge success with a large and varied client base using a multitude of machines with different capabilities and aims, Simon identified the need for a handy all-in-one tool—and so came ZIIP Beauty.
Working alongside childhood friend, David Mason, the duo used Simon’s skincare knowledge and Mason’s background in technology to design a first-of-its-kind at-home electrical facial tool that syncs with a personalized app.
“We started talking about the idea of a device and how cool it would be if it worked with an app. We wanted to be able to send different electrical combinations at different times and target whatever visible concern you wanted, whenever you wanted. We developed ZIIP and patented its ability to wirelessly change the programs instantly on the device from your phone.”
Since then, Simon has won multiple prestigious awards and is often hailed as the ‘Nikola Tesla’ of skincare, so you can understand why we used this opportunity to pick her brains about her top skincare tips and products.
For those who have a ZIIP HALO, you might not know that Simon often recommends its use for targeting the appearance of blemishes.
“With ZIIP, I use a low-level intensity waveform designed to work with the skin in that area. It’s part of what we built into the Skin Clarity treatment”
Considering she’d just landed from a long-haul overnight flight, Simon’s face yielded no signs of puffiness, so we were definitely eager to hear her tips on ways to reduce the look of puffiness.
“I love ice rollers, they get the job done. You can even take those large spherical ice cubes and break them in half.”
We all love that warm feeling of golden sun rays on our skin, but keeping our skin safe should always be our number one priority on those sunny days.
“Use a sunblock that is not chemical because that’s going to break you out. You want a physical block and that’s going to be a zinc and titanium cream. Make sure you’re covering the hands and the arms in suncream too.”
For existing premature aging, Simon advises gentle treatments: “I recommend gentler treatments than lasers—treatments like ZIIP are going to help visibly even the skin’s appearance and create a visible glow within your skin.”
We can’t forget her one last tip…
“And a big, large hat!”
And finally, we asked Simon to name some of her go-to summer skincare products. These cult products will become your new vacation heroes in no time.
Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 Original 1970: An exfoliating toner designed to balance your skin’s PH—it’s a cult favorite, but extremely hard to get hold of.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask: A hydrating lip mask available in a range of flavors.
Tatcha The Kissu Lip Mask: A lip mask with a jelly texture to help leave even the driest lips looking and feeling refreshed.
ZIIP HALO, Simon’s own electrical waveform device, had to make this list. From reducing the appearance of blemishes to giving you a visibly lifted, sculpted appearance, this powerful fusion of electrical waveforms offers visible results in the palm of your hand.
