ZIIP HALO creator Melanie Simon on Microcurrents, Celebrity Skin Essentials and Sun Protection.

A celebrity aesthetician to Hollywood's elite (Jennifer Aniston is a huge fan), ZIIP founder Melanie Simon’s skincare expertise spoke for itself when she entered ZIIP’s UK headquarters recently.  Her luminous, youthful glow shone brightly, despite a red-eye flight and a full day of filming ahead.

Sitting down with Melanie, we had the chance to catch-up with her about all things ZIIP Beauty, and her go-to skincare products that she credits for her skin health.

Introducing herself for those unfamiliar with her infamy in the skincare game, Simon puts it quite simply, “I like to call myself an electrical aesthetician because there isn’t really another way to describe myself. I literally build electrical combinations to put into the skin to create certain outcomes.”.

Now we know this sounds unfamiliar and quite daunting, but rest assured that Simon has earned her laurels in this game and knows what she’s talking about.

“I’ve been doing this for over 20 years now, using machines from all over the world. What fascinated me the most was the electricity and the electrical currents that we used that are identical to the human body and the lasting results they have on skin.”

After huge success with a large and varied client base using a multitude of machines with different capabilities and aims, Simon identified the need for a handy all-in-one tool- and so came, ZIIP Beauty.

A fusion of knowledge and technology

Working alongside childhood friend, David Mason, the duo used Simon’s skincare knowledge, and Mason’s background in technology to design a first-of-its-kind at-home NanocurrentTM tool that syncs with a personalized app.

“We started talking about the idea of a device and how cool it would be if it worked with an app. We wanted to be able to send different electrical combinations at different times and treat whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted. We developed ZIIP and patented its ability to wirelessly change the programs instantly on the device from your phone.”

Since then, Simon has won multiple prestigious awards and is often hailed as the ‘Nikola Tesla’ of skincare, so you can understand why we used this opportunity to pick her brains about her top skincare tips and products.

Tip #1- How to Treat Hormonal Acne

For those that have a ZIIP HALO, you might not know that Simon often recommends its use for blemishes and acne bouts.

“Blemishes put off a positive electrical charge, and so I decided with the ZIIP, I’m going to try a low intensity negative waveform, and see what happens. The negative waveform [produced in the Problem Solver routine] seeks out the positive electrical charge and suppresses it.

With the ZIIP, you’re going to want to use Problem Solver, but I want you to combine that with Founder’s Favorite. Do Founder’s Favorite first on the affected area for 2-3 minutes, and then you’ll do Problem Solver.”

Another secret skincare tip that Simon shared for treating hormonal acne, “Try a toothpaste without fluoride, that broke me out for years and as soon as I stopped, no breakouts.”

Tip #2- How to Depuff Your Face

Considering she’d just landed from a long-haul overnight flight, Simon’s face yielded no signs of puffiness, so we were definitely eager to hear her tips on ways to depuff your face. The best part, it’s free!

“I love ice rollers, they get the job done. Also, you can take those large spherical ice cubes and break them in half. Wrap them in gauze and put them on the eyes to depuff.”

Tip #3- Best Remedies for Sun Damage on Face

We all love that warm feeling of golden sun rays basking down onto our skin, but keeping our skin safe should always be our number one priority on those sunny days.

“Use a sunblock that is not chemical because that’s going to break you out. You want a physical block and that’s going to be a zinc and titanium cream. Make sure you’re covering the hands and the arms in suncream too.”

For existing sun damage, Simon advises gentle treatments, “I recommend much less invasive treatments than lasers for sun damage, treatments like the ZIIP are going to even the skin tone and create a glow within your skin.”

We can’t forget her one last tip…

“And a big, large hat!”
